Today we sat down as a team to discuss the content of our yearbook and its narrative. After speaking with Joe and Lorenzo we felt it important to choose a finite number of pages - this will give us something to aim for when working out the structure and prevent the publication from becoming a sprawling sea of pages with us adding more and more spreads.
Through discussion we worked out that we will be producing a publication of 96 pages (a multiple of 12) - breaking it down into sections (introduction pages, thematic enquiry 'chapters' and outro pages).
Based on the seven 'Thematic Enquiry' concept themes, each section has been eventually allocated 12 pages/6 double-spreads each + an allowance has been made for the introduction and ending pages as separate additional sections.
We thought it a good idea to take the 96 page document into InDesign using different formats for spreads to suggest the pace of the book. Of course this is a bit rudimentary because we are not working with a bank of images (Aidan is still gathering them documentary style). It is still a good exercise to simulate the pace though.
We've gathered the majority of the copy for the book from the Surface Pattern tutors so we can begin working with it. The final copy should be with us on Monday morning .
Aidan has passed on some proof's to us and we performed a quality check on them. The effective ppi is 220 when stretched to cover a full bleed DPS so we mocked up a selection of his images to see how they printed in the digital dungeon. The good news is that the quality of print is good. Ian took some photos of the sample prints (which obviously means quality has been lost through the lens).
