Yearbook Bind

After our yearbook meeting, and in her infinite wisdom :), Charlotte decided to mock up what we ahd spoken about as a team. An open spine bound book that used the rule of three as the leading concept (response to our year being the third to graduate). During the meeting we discussed that we would like to  make a feature of the bind and the idea of displaying a logo or word along the sewn signatures. 

We are keen to keep the design simple and clean to prevent any presumptions being made about the course and to remain impartial to the content.  

Personally I don't particularly like the giant number 3, but as Charlotte mentions on her blog, this could be adapted into a logoform or something similar (see examples of logoform on my previous post). The important idea is to make a feature of the bind. The jacket in the mock up may also prove to cost too much on our budget. A nice touch but perhaps simply leaving the bound book without a cover would still make a feature of the bind but prevent extra cost. We agreed in our meeting that the jacket isn't needed. 

Maybe a more cost effective way to add a cover would be to mount thick card directly onto the first and last pages, leaving it 10mm clear of the spine so it can still operate as a hinge.
