Whilst putting together our pitch, Ian was in charge of gathering some print quotes for the yearbook. Unfortunately they arrived a couple of days late for the pitch submission but it was a good experience specing out the jobs as a group to make the quotes as realistic and accurate as possible. Unfortunately the prices came in well over budget (mainly due to our fancy coptic bind) but it is interesting to see the reduction in cost per unit the more you order, economies of scale in action!
Duffield were extremely helpful, our contact calling Ian a number of times to discuss the job. They were also far cheaper than Northend! 1000 units with Duffield coming in at £4 per book, significantly reduced for 5000, equalling only £1.60 per book. A good experience in finding out what costs what. Looking forward to working to a budget for the Surface Pattern Yearbook.
Since the graphic design pitch we have learnt that all yearbooks are going to be the same format and stock (apart from the cover / cover finish) - this means that an expensive coptic bind will be out of the question, but allows us to concentrate on the cover itself and the layout / stock of the book. This should help reduce costs, haha.
