Yearbook - Final Proofs

In a previous post I mentioned that the Mac we were working on on Friday died at 4:30pm so our work was stuck in the 'user work' drive for the weekend. The good news is that first thing yesterday morning we got one of the technicians to log in and retrieve it. Phew! Great news.
Having rescued the very nearly finished files Ian, Charlotte and I sat down together after yesterdays final crit to make the final amends and tweaks to the document. Once amended we printed it out to make a final mock to show to the Surface Pattern tutors this morning. We also mocked up a series of postcards to show the tutors also. (thanks to Hannah for letting me sneak into digital print to print the proof cover and postcards last night).
A lot of photo fixing was done by Ian on Friday whilst Charlotte and I worked on the cover type and postcard design so all we had to do was to agree on some typesetting and replace a couple of images that the Surface Pattern tutors wanted swapping out.
One of these images featured an unwanted 'guest' as Ian put it. The shot was perfect apart from that pesky lady. We reviewed all of our images one more time but we couldn't find one that displayed the space so well and also thought the studio plants were a great feature to show prospective students in the book . Faced with replacing it we decided to try photoshopping the lady out.
Ian did a fantastic job with the photoshopping, as you can see in this before and after shot:
We tested the image on a selection of people in the studio and none of them could see anything wrong with it, only when told did they scruitenise the image and pick up on faint defects. For this reason we think it will be fine to use in the book, but before we do so we will fix it up a little bit more.
